Scottish Regional league - Meet One

This weekend saw the famous four of Granton Giants make their competitive debuts!

The team played some great dodgeball against the Buchan Sharks and the Kelvin Rapids but have still to claim their first win.

Granton Giants 2 - 22 Buchan Sharks

Our four giants took to the court aided by two loan players from Aberdeens Granite City Guerrillas and retrievers from Edinburgh Dodgeball.

Calum and Gregor made impressive debuts and attracted a lot of praise from other teams for the strength and timing of their throws. Amanda invented and successfully pulled off a Hadouken throw and Keir… well the video evidence indicates he spent a lot of time squatting in the corner of the court.

The result doesn’t reflect how close some of the games were and shows how unforgiving the Dodgeball scoring system can be! Plenty of positives were on display and our debutants really took to the game quickly - with a little more experience these two will surely be dominating the court in no time.

Granton Giants 11- 13 Kelvin Rapids

The second match of the day was a close affair! Granton played well across both half’s but found themselves three sets down at half time.

However, the team rallied and won three straight sets on the bounce to take the game to 11-11. There was some great awareness on court and some great rebound catches that helped take the game to a nail biting and decisive sixty second set. Unfortunately for the Giants the Rapids were able to see out this set with the win and took the game by one set.

So a slightly disappointing day results wise but a great to see the development and adjustment of our players from the first game to the second. Our debuts adapted to how the competitive game is played in an impressively quick amount of time. The future looks bright for Granton and its Mean Green Machine.
