Unfortunately the official Scottish Open has been cancelled by British Dodgeball.
We recieved email notification today from regional co-ordinator James Robinson informing us that:
"The Junior Opens arranged at the start of this season have seen a very low amount of entries and so the majority have been cancelled. This is disappointing to us as a lot of time and resource is spent on sourcing venues, advertising and recruiting coordinators + referees and is obviously disappointing to you and your players as I am sure they would like to compete regularly. If the demand for Junior Opens is not there we as a governing body we need to work on an alternative strategy that best utilises our staff time and resources."
This is a bit of a blow given that the closing date for entering had not yet passed. This has also affected teams across the UK as more regional opens in England have also been cancelled.
While junior league entry is still open the closest junior league to the club is the North league in Bradford. Which is prohibitive in terms of cost and distance for many of our players.
There has been the suggestion that we may be able to arrange a "friendly" tournament with other teams independent of British Dodgeball. Though this would be without British Dodgeball equipment, officiating support, or British Dodgeball open medals. We will keep players and parents updated.
We understand some of our juniors will be quite upset but we will work with other clubs to try and ensure some form of competition can go ahead.
