1. Introduction

Granton GIants is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people involved in our activities. This policy outlines our approach to safeguarding and protecting children from harm, in line with Scottish legislation and best practices.
 

2. Policy Statement

All children and young people have the right to participate in a safe, enjoyable, and supportive environment. We are dedicated to promoting the welfare of children and protecting them from abuse and exploitation.
 

3. Key Principles

• The welfare of children is our primary concern.

• All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial or ethnic origin, religious belief, or sexual identity, have the right to protection from all forms of harm and abuse.

• Children have the right to express their views on matters affecting them and to have those views taken into account.

• We will work in partnership with children, parents, and other organizations to promote the welfare and protection of children.
   

4. Responsibilities

• Club Officials and Coaches: Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and supportive environment. Complete appropriate training and adhere to this policy.

• Volunteers: Follow the guidelines set out in this policy and report any concerns about a child’s welfare to the designated Child Protection Officer.

• Parents and Guardians: Support the club in promoting good practice and reporting any concerns.
   

5. Procedures

• Recruitment: All staff and volunteers working with children will undergo appropriate background checks, including disclosure Scotland checks.

• Reporting Concerns: Any concerns about a child’s welfare should be reported to the designated Child Protection Officer. In cases of immediate danger, contact the police or social services.

• Confidentiality: All concerns and reports will be handled with confidentiality and shared only with those who need to know.
   

6. Code of Conduct

• Treat all children with respect and dignity.

• Always work in an open environment, avoiding private or unobserved situations.

• Encourage positive and constructive feedback.

• Never engage in or tolerate any form of bullying, harassment, or abuse.
   

7. Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains up-to-date with current legislation and best practices.
